“Creative thinking inspires idea Idea Inspire Change” -Barbara Januszkiewicz
Gnanam School of Business organized a Power Talk on the topic “Creative Thinking”.The Guest Lecture Dr. R. Venkataraman, former Director of XIME Bangalore. He is currently a visiting Professor at BIM Trichy, LIBA Chennai, XIME Chennai and was adjunct faculty of Management Development Institute of Singapore for University of Bradford programmes. He has 37 years of experience in logistics industry which comprises 2 years in Surface transport industry, 19 years in the aviation industry in Indian Airlines, and 16 years in the shipping industry. He possess good insight of the international business scenario as almost 20 years of his industry experience was in business development and management of Straits group of companies Singapore. He has an Academic experience of 12 years out of which 2 years was full time with XIME Bangalore.
Dr.Venkatraman holds a Batchelor’s degree from University of Calcutta, PGDBA from XLRI Jamshedpur, Master’s in logistics from Aston University, Bimingham, UK, and has completed his Ph.D. from Asia E university, Malaysia. In 2007 he was admitted as a Fellow of the Chartered Institute of Logistics and Transport ,UK.. He has authored a book titled “Musings of a Strategist” which was written for B-school students to understand the link between theory and practice in industry. He believes that his entry to academics was triggered by his passion to share his experiences with the young minds, meaning "the students" and help them to stay motivated and become value added corporate citizens so that they can contribute fruitfully to the betterment of the society at large.
As the Event began, M.Revanth of Taylor’s batch welcomed our guest of honor Mr.R.Venkataraman on behalf of our entire GSB and invited Director Dr.S.Sundar to propose welcome address. Then M.S.Suvetha Andal of Taylor batch delivered a brief introduction about our chief guest. The main aim of this convene is to enkindle the students mind with the idea about how to bring out creativity.
The Guest of honour Mr.R.Venkataraman expressed his strong thoughts about how to think differently and pave the way for creativity. He explained why creativity is required, what is blocking them from being creative and how to develop creative skills in an effective manner. He insisted that managers of the century must have the following characteristics such as:
- Shareholder’s value
- Holding the equity of the company
- Creative Thinking
- Thinking out of Box
- Global Experience
He also explained about tools for defining the problem by Kipling method. Some ways are:
- What is the problem?
- Where it is happening?
- When it is happening?
- Why is it happening?
- How can you overcome from this problem?
- Whom do you get involved?
- When will you know that you have solved your problem?
We learned many concepts about how to analyses the blocks which stops us from being creative. The impact of our chief guest speech reflected from the questions asked by our students at the end of the session. Dafni Nivetha delivered the vote of thanks and thus the event ended with the positive environment.
