Gnanam School of Business conducted the Management Development Programme on "Basic Quality Tools" for Meenakshi Mission Hospital Nurses on December 18, 2017. The resource person were Dr.R.ThiruMurugan, Faculty Member of Gnanam School Business and Dr. Ramesh Babu, CEO Meenakshi Mission Hospital, Thanjavur. The participants were from various field of nursing departments. Nearly 60 nurses attended the programme.
Dr. R. ThiruMurugan initially introduced the basics of quality tools for process improvement. Some of the tools discussed are Cause-and-effect diagram,Check sheet,Control charts,Histogram,Pareto chart, Scatter diagram and Stratification. He also added the necessity for quality and safety improvement initiatives in health care industry.
Quality health care is defined as “the degree to which health services for individuals and populations increase the likelihood of desired health outcomes and are consistent with current professional knowledge. He explained about the reasons for failures in quality of health care industry and gave some remedies using quality tools.
He enlightened the key success factors to improve the quality in health care sector. Dr. R. ThiruMurugan elucidated some benefits of quality tools like it helps determine root causes, encourages group participation, uses an orderly, easy-to-read format, indicates possible causes of variation and increases process knowledge.
It remained as an interactive session and the participants were enlightened with the basic knowledge of quality tools and their importance in health care sector.
